Description

This invited presentation for the HERDSA NSW Branch national event, “Adaptive Citizens: navigating networks of work, society and technology”, shares how co-operative inquiry can be used to design learning opportunities with students through a pedagogy of kindness and a commitment to democratic participation. It describes a facilitation approach that makes space for dialogue, reflection, and shared choices so student-led projects can take shape in ways that feel authentic and achievable. Grounded in experiences from completed projects, the presentation illustrates how this process supports learners in developing confidence as emerging researchers and writers, while strengthening connections and engagement across a learning community. It also reflects on the practical work required to sustain participatory learning in online contexts, where time, coordination, and digital load can shape what is possible.
