Artificial Intelligence in matters of life and death: Piloting a human-machine evaluation of AI - Lessons learned from RAPIDX

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

In 2023, this paper on the topic of artificial intelligence was co-presented  at the CSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting.

The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand is the professional body for cardiologists and those working in the area of cardiology including researchers, scientists, cardiovascular nurses, allied health professionals and other healthcare workers. The CSANZ Annual Meeting is a shared community of discourse between those industries.

Presentation Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds great promise in healthcare decision-making, but challenges in validity and trust persist. In this presentation, we will discuss the work of our leading group, which proposes a novel approach called PROLIFERATE_AI. This methodology integrates the PROLIFERATE evaluation framework, incorporating participatory, social, and measurable components, along with Expert Knowledge Elicitation (EKE) methodologies that enable Bayesian priors calculations. By evaluating AI's impact from an end-user perspective within the cluster-randomized clinical trial, RAPIDx AI, PROLIFERATE_AI fosters stakeholder engagement, credibility, and responsible AI utilization, ultimately enhancing trust in critical healthcare scenarios. This innovative approach effectively bridges the gap between robust research evidence and the successful implementation of AI in healthcare.
