Description:
Dr Maria Alejandra Pinero de Plaza was invited to deliver a guest lecture on Clinical AI in Healthcare Management as part of the Flinders University Graduate Certificate in Digital Health Management. The session was delivered to a cohort of postgraduate students—both national and international—enrolled in the Digital Health Topic.
This interactive lecture explored the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare management, with a focus on ethical implementation, evaluation within complex adaptive systems, and real-world case studies. Highlights included research findings from two recent publications:
Co-designing, measuring, and optimizing innovations and solutions within complex adaptive health systems (Frontiers in Health Services) [https://doi.org/10.3389/frhs.2023.1154614]
Human-centred AI for emergency cardiac care: Evaluating RAPIDx AI with PROLIFERATE_AI (International Journal of Medical Informatics) [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijmedinf.2025.105810]
Students provided outstanding feedback, particularly noting the value of incorporating AI evaluation frameworks such as PROLIFERATE_AI into their practice-based understanding of healthcare transformation.
Impact:
This activity contributed to professional education, research translation, and interdisciplinary dialogue on the future of digital health. It fostered ongoing collaboration between the Caring Futures Institute and the Digital Health teaching team.
