In 2025, Minglei received an Honourable Mention during the awarding of the John Legge Prize and was interviewed about the PhD he had completed at Flinders University. This research examined Chinese cultural diplomacy with a focus on the China Cultural Centres.

The John Legge Prize is awarded by the Asian Studies Association of Australia, and recognises cutting edge postgraduate research.
