The fourth contender in 1066's battle for England's throne

Activity: Talk or presentation typesMedia appearance / interview

Description

1066 was a pivotal year in English history, with a slew of contenders battling to take control of the country's throne.

William of Normandy was ultimately successful when he won the Battle of Hastings in October that year and defeated King Harold Godwinson, who was fresh from defeating Norwegian invader Harald Hardrada.

But a 14 year old boy called Edgar was technically the next in line to the throne.

Dr Matthew Firth, a Research Fellow in Medieval History at Flinders University joins Suzanne Hill to explain what happened to him.
