Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

Australian Museum and Galleries National conference: Panel members
Janet Carding, Denise Robinson, Penny Edmonds, Zoe Rimmer

The panel members will discuss the historic TMAG/RST made to Tasmanian Aboriginal people on the 15th of February 2021, the first in Australia by any state museum, and the processes of preparation, consultation and deep reflection that made this important day with its associated commitments possible. The panel will reflect on the alignment of the apology with the AMaGA ‘First Peoples Road map enhancing Indigenous Engagement in Museums and Galleries’. The discussion is intended to offer information and reflections for other collecting organisations to consider such acts of apology in the name of peace-building and in the spirit of truth telling, taking responsibility for past practices, and the Uluru statement from the heart.
