Research Biography
Alexander Gallus is Professor of Haematology at Flinders University School of Medicine and the Director of Pathology Services at Flinders Medical Centre and the Repatriation General Hospital, Adelaide, Australia. Professor Gallus is a physician and pathologist with a long-standing research involvement in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, who did his postgraduate training in clinical trials at McMaster University in Canada. He has an active clinical referral practice specialising in problems of thrombosis and haemostasis. His present research activities centre on international thrombosis treatment trials in collaboration with teams in Europe and North America.
Research Interests
Professor Gallus is a member of several national and international scientific and professional bodies, including the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), for whom he has just served as a member of the scientific organizing committee for the present XXth ISTH Congress. He has published extensively in the field of thromboembolic disorders and has acted as a referee for several journals including Thrombosis Research and the Medical Journal of Australia. Professor Gallus was also Chairman of the writing committee involved in the development of the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Consensus Guidelines for warfarin use, published in 2000.
