Research Biography

Ashlea joined the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) at Flinders University in 2022. NCETA is an internationally recognised research centre in the alcohol and other drugs firled. NCETA's core areas of research focus are:

  • The promotion of workforce development principles, research and evaluation of effective practices
  • Investigating the prevention, prevalence and effects of alcohol and other drug use in society
  • Development and evaluation of intervention programs and resources for workplaces and other organisations.

Prior to joining NCETA, Ashlea worked as a Behavioural Scientist at the SAHMRI Health Policy Centre, focusing on research and evaluation projects related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Ashlea has also previously worked in research roles at the Centre for Workplace Excellence at the University of South Australia and the National Centre for Vocational Education Research.

Ashlea has a broad interest in health behaviours and behaviour change, with a particular focus on alcohol consumption. Her PhD thesis focused on how people negotiate the social consequences of stopping or reducing their alcohol consumption. She is interested in the ways that individual acts of non-drinking may (or may not) contribute to changes in broader cultures of alcohol consumption.
