Research Biography

Dr Wubishet is a Research Fellow in Health Economics in the Health and Social Care Economics Group at the Caring Futures Institute, Flinders University. His research centres on the economic evaluation of interventions across health and social care systems, particularly for populations living with high support needs, including older adults and individuals experiencing complex health challenges.

He has expertise in economic evaluation, linked administrative health data analysis (including Medicare Benefits Schedule, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and hospital data), and the use of patient-reported outcome measures in applied health economics. His methodological expertise builds on doctoral research that used longitudinal survey data linked with administrative health and mortality records to examine chronic disease outcomes in older populations. His work integrates statistical and econometric methods to generate policy-relevant evidence that informs service delivery, funding decisions and system reform.

Dr Wubishet has contributed to global health and pharmacoepidemiology research examining disease burden and health disparities across diverse populations. As a collaborator on Global Burden of Disease studies, he contributed to manuscript review and scholarly development within large international research consortia.

He is committed to strengthening the evidence base for equitable, person-centred care and building collaborative research networks that support high-quality health and social care systems.

Dr Wubishet serves as Co-Convener of the Australian Health Economics Society Mental Health Special Interest Group seminar series.

Research Impact

Dr Wubishet’s research contributes to evidence-informed decision-making in health and social care by applying economic evaluation and linked administrative data to questions of service utilisation, outcomes and value for money. His work draws on experience in longitudinal data analysis and survival modelling to strengthen understanding of health trajectories, service use and population-level outcomes.

Earlier in his career, he contributed to global health research examining disease burden and health disparities, including collaborative contributions to Global Burden of Disease publications. His research has involved multidisciplinary national and international collaborations and has been disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
