Research Biography

Dr Felise Adams completed her Honours degree of Bachelor of Science (First Class) majoring in microbiology at Flinders University in 2012. During these studies she received multiple awards including the Flinders University Medal, Max Clark Prize in Science and Engineering and School of Biological Sciences Honours Scholarship. In 2013, Felise took up a NHMRC grant funded position as a research assistant in the laboratory led by Professor Melissa Brown at Flinders University. In the following year she commenced her PhD at Flinders University, investigating the role of regulatory proteins and mobile genetic elements in the success of Acinetobacter baumannii, a significant human pathogen. In addition to receiving an Australian Postgraduate Award, Felise was the recipient of AJ & IM Naylon and Playford Trust Ph.D. scholarships. From 2019-2022 Felise underwent Post-Doctoral training under the supervision of Dr Bart Eijkelkamp in the Bacterial Host Research Adaptation Laboratory, extending her research skills in bacterial virulence, metabolism and host-microbe interections. In 2023, Felise has started a new postdoctoral role with Associate Professor Peter Speck on an NHRMC funded project to examine the use of phage therapy as a viable treatment for infected foot ulcers in diabetic patients.
