Research Interests

Circadian rhythms, sleep-wake cycles, the effect of environmental signals on the physiology of reptiles and the development of fever, sensory physiology of ectoparasites, factors that influence the academic performance of first year students, peer mentoring, developing curricula that meet the needs of students, lymphoedema. The interactions of light intensity and duration, and their effect on circadian rhythms. Light plays a critical role in synchronising 24-hour rhythms in human physiological and behavioural functions such as temperature regulation, hormone secretion and sleep-wake cycles. However, the relative importance of different parameters of light in synchronising these circadian rhythms is not known. This study examined the interactions between light intensity and duration of light administration in order to gain a better understanding of how light influences daily rhythms. Such knowledge will also enable the development of more effective light therapies for sufferers of rhythm disorders. Patients knowledge of the risk of lymphoedema and its associated assessment and treatment.
