Research Biography

Joanne is a Research Fellow in social determinants of health and works on projects with the Southgate Institute for Health, Society & Equity and the Research Centre for Injury Studies. She is an economist and public health researcher with expertise in quantitative research. Her research explores the impact of the distribution of social determinants of health on health equity and interactions between health and work. She joined the the Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity in 2018 and began working at the Research Centre for Injury Studies in early 2019. Joanne received her PhD in 2016 and worked as a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Labour Studies until December 2017.

  • Socio-demographic profile of homelessness in Adelaide/South Australia (in partnership with Baptist Care)
  • Examining increasing health inequities in Australia: the contribution of employment, income and wealth.
  • Supporting resettlement and health and wellbeing for people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds: Developing and piloting a measure of integration.

  • Healthy South: Testing the feasibility of the rapid translation of Health in All Policies (HiAP) ideas to create healthy urban environments, create health promoting health services and stem the non-communicable disease epidemic in the southern area of Adelaide
