Research Biography

Dr Joel Lisk is a Lecturer in Space Law at Flinders University and a member of the Jeff Bleich Centre for Democracy and Disruptive Technologies.

Joel's research primarily focuses on the laws applicable to private and commercial activities in new operating domains, with a particular emphasis on outer space. He also explores how domestic laws are designed and their impacts on commercial activities, as well as the regulation of emerging technologies to mitigate risks to end consumers.

He is a qualified lawyer who operates a private legal practice, providing legal advice on competition and consumer law, privacy and data protection, space operations and activities, and complex regulatory frameworks.

Joel has presented his research at numerous domestic and international conferences. He was a founding Director of the Space Law Council of Australia and New Zealand and continues to serve as its Company Secretary. Additionally, he is a Research Affiliate of the Australian Centre for Space Governance and the Chair of the Space Law Select Committee of the Law Society of South Australia.
