Research Biography
Dr Kelly Loffler is a senior research fellow based in the Flinders University Trials Research Unit, located within Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute. Current responsibilities include clinical trial protocol and database development, data management and analysis, working with both investigator-initiated and externally sponsored clinical research. She has a particular interest in development and improvement of processes and systems for managing clinical research operations, including online tools for research data collection, integration of research into clinical care, and for facilitating automation and inclusion of data collected by apps, devices or in routine clinical care into research to enable efficiency.
Dr Loffler has a background in basic biomedical science and animal models of human disease, with previous experience in cancer and diabetes research, including basic biology, genomics, pre-clinical research using animal models, management of tissue and tumour banks, and clinical trials.
Beginning at Flinders University with the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health (AISH), she has worked extensively with data from the international Sleep Apnea and cardioVascular Endpoints (SAVE) trial to build a more comprehensive picture of the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea and other aspects of cardiometabolic health. She remains on the steering committee for the SAVE trial for secondary and downstream analyses, and is also involved in several international collaborative projects for individual level meta-analysis in obstructive sleep apnea clinical trials. More recently she has been involved in numerous other clinical research projects and trials, including small local investigator initiated trials and externally sponsored work.
