Research Biography

Ken Pidd is the Deputy Director (Research) at the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) located at Flinders University. His main area of expertise focuses on understanding the extent and nature of work related alcohol and drug use and the implications for policy and practice. He has a particular interest in the wellbeing of young workers and the role the workplace plays in shaping long term health related behaviours and attitudes. He is recognised as one of Australia's leading experts in this area and has produced numerous related publications. Since 2004 he has produced 30 peer reviewed publications, 24 peer reviewed conference papers, 3 book chapters, 24 reports and 17 non-peer reviewed publications.  Prior to working at NCETA he managed a drug an alcoho program for the South Australian Construction industry.  He provides advice and consultancy on workplace alcohol and drug issues to government agencies, employer groups, unions, and individual employers.   He has extensive experience in collaborating with workplaces to improve worker wellbeing and reduce the impact of alcohol and drug use on organisations. He has designed and delivered education and training programs, workplace alcohol and drug policies, and trialed workplace interventions to address employee substance use and mental health problems.  He is a member of the Construction & Other Industries Drug and Alcohol Program Management Committee, and Patron of Foundation House, a Sydney based addiction rehabilitation centre for construction industry workers.
