Dr Lucinda (Lucy) Bell is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and public health nutrition researcher with a focus on children's health and nutrition. Broadly, Lucy's research goals centre on prevention of chronic disease, in particular the prevention of childhood obesity, and informing policies and programs that promote child health. She has strong public health nutrition skills in child nutrition, evidence-based nutrition intervention, and dietary assessment.
Lucy has several years of professional experience spanning the development of innovative and validated measures of young children's food intake, and delivery and evaluation of child nutrition and weight management initiatives across a range of settings: child care centres, families, and communities. Most notably, Dr Bell led the evaluation of the South Australian multi-strategy, multi-setting, community-based childhood obesity prevention program, OPAL, in the final stages and was responsible for the delivery and evaluation of the PEACHTM family-based child weight management program online. Her outstanding individual contribution to research has been recognized through receiving a Flinders University Vice Chancellor's Early Career Researcher award in 2016.
Further, Lucy is actively involved in teaching activities. Most notably, she is the current Topic Coordinator for Research Methods & Skills in Evidence Based Nutrition Practice (2018) and previous Topic Coordinator for the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics Honours program at Flinders University (2016, 2017). She also volunteers her time to serve on the state committee for the Nutrition Society of Australia (Secretary).
