His research focuses on evaluating the use and effects of medicines and other substances related to women’s and children’s health. His overarching clinical and research ambitions are to improve the health of women and children through the development and promotion of safer, more effective and personalised approaches to pharmacotherapy. Core research themes of his group include:

- Understanding and influencing medicines use: Understanding and influencing key aspects related to medication utilisation in clinical practice to enhance decision-making, address evidence-practice gaps and improve research translation

- Enhancing medication safety: Enhancing our understanding of the immediate and long-term risks associated with medication use and creating safer systems to reduce medication related harms

- Improving pharmacotherapeutics: Developing and promoting more efficacious and personalised pharmacotherapy approaches for improving reproductive and perinatal health

He is a recognised national expert on medication use in pregnancy and lactation and serves as an expert reviewer for the Australian Therapeutic Guidelines. He has been invited to speak at more than 20 national and international conferences and is regularly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education programs. He has a strong commitment to community engagement and inclusive research practices, partnering with a number of consumer organisations across a range of projects.
