Research Expertise

Marco Susino is an Endevaour Research Fellow and Lecturer in Creative Arts. He is an award-winning artist in music and creative and performing arts. His work has been performed and commissioned across Europe, the Americas and Australasia, including at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney, the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. In 2019, he held a five month residency at the Juilliard School, New York as a visiting artist and research fellow. Prior to joining Flinders University, Marco was Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Program in Music at the JMC Academy in Melbourne. He also held positions at Boxhill Institute, The University of New South Wales, Sydney and the University of Adelaide. Marco is a trained musician and music psychologist, and recognised expert in music-evoked emotions and cross-cultural experiences of emotion by music. His research investigates how emotion in music is felt and perceived across cultures, and includes the embodied examination of musical emotions in dance. He has undertaken fieldwork and collaborations in the United States, Cuba and Portugal.

Marco has collaborated on two Australian Research Council (ARC) projects and was awarded the prestigeous Endevour Research Fellowship to collaborate with dancers, choreographers and composers at the Juilliard School in New York. He is a reviewer of the flagship journals, Psychology of MusicMusicae Scientiae and Frontiers in Psychology.

As an artist his work includes award-winning music releases and multi-media installations.
