Research Biography

I am an early-career researcher with interests in volunteer tourism / volunteering and its intersection with neocolonialism, digital media and memory studies. My PhD focuses on how memories of the volunteer tourism experience are mediated and negotiated by digital media. This study arose out of my previous research which explored how blogging was used as a coping mechanism by expatriate volunteers in Bangladesh. Prior to this I worked as an environmental management consultant working with government, private industry and non-governmental organisations and was the lead or supporting writer for a variety of technical environmental impact reports and promotional reports.
