Research Biography

Merina Devira is a PhD candidate in the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Flinders University. Her current study focuses on the implementation of the genre-based approach (GBA) for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses in Indonesian secondary schools. She is an academic and researcher in EFL teaching with over 12 years of experience. Also, she has become a teaching instructor teaching English in Indonesia to both university students and lectures as well as public for over 10 years of experience. She holds a bachelor's degree in English Language Education and Master's degree in Applied Linguistics. After completing a two-year postgraduate Applied Linguistics program at the University of Adelaide in 2012 with an interest in applying functional linguistics in language education, she lectures at the a English Education Department of Samudra University, Indonesia. She has been actively involved in conference presentations and publications. 

Research Expertise

Merina Devira is an expert in the analysis of texts through a Genre and Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) theory, mainly for Critical Review texts. As an academic and researcher, his expertise is also engage with Academic literacies in the higher education context, text (genre)-based pedagogy curriculum, and EFL language teaching and learning.

Her research interests are in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), Genre Analysis, text/genre-based pedagogy (curriculum), English for Academic and Specific Purposes, and English language teaching and learning.
