Research Biography
Murray Drummond is a Research Professor in Sport, Health and Physical Activity. He is the Leader of SHAPE Research His research interests are based around qualitative sport and health with a particular interest in gender, diversity, equity and inclusion in sports, including women and sport and masculinities and body image. Murray has published widely on issues relating to masculinities, sport and health, gay men's bodies, and sport and mental health. He is regularly invited to present his work nationally and internationally and is a current member of the Women in Sport Taskforce for the SA Government as well as a member of the National Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for Surf Life Saving Australia. Murray's current research includes two ARC Discoveries investigating issues around boyhood, mental health and digital lives. He is also leading a significant project on ageing men and walking football to promote socialisation, and reduce loneliness and suicide ideation among older men through sport in rural and regional areas.
Murray is a previous and current member of the editorial boards of 6 International peer reviewed journals including: Men and Masculinities, The Journal of Men's Studies, Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science, Health Education, International Journal of Men's Social and Community Health and The Journal of Boyhood Studies: An Interdiscpilnary Journal.
