Niranjan Bidargaddi, BEng C.Sc, PhD, is the Associate Professor of Personal Health Informatics at College of Medicine and Public Health Flinders University jointly appointed with Country Health SA LHN. He leads the Personal Health Informatics & Digital Psychiatry lab based at Flinders Digital Health Research Centre Tonsley and SAHMRI. He has over over 10 years of diverse experience in health informatics and e-health research, development and consulting. He trained as a Computer Science Engineer, holds a PhD from Monash University (2007), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at CSIRO in e-health (2008). Between 2009 to 2016, he worked in a largely operational health informatics role in South Australian Health Department, initially as an informatics advisor (2009-2010) and subsequently as Head of Mental Health Informatics Unit (2011-Jun 2016), and has an extensive trackrecord in translating emerging technologies to improve diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders. He was awarded MRFF TRIP Fellowship to develop and translate a smartphone app which uses smartphone data to predict onset of mental health problems into clinical practice.He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, received over $3M grant funding from industry, government and competitive funding sources (as the lead investigator). He is a Chief Investigator of the ARC Industry Tranformation Research Hub on Digital Enhaced Living (2018-24), and has acted in leadership roles with three Cooperative Research Centers. He has also successfully translated ideas originating from research into commercial applications.
He has developed innovative myHR and smartphone app platforms to improve management of mental illnesses (MindTick and AIsquared). His research focusses of development of systems and tools which lead to eary screening of symptoms, assist individuals integrate the process of behavioural interventions into the fabric of daily lives, enable health professionals to personalise delivery of timely support and medication management outside hospital.
