Research Biography
Dr Oliver Black is an Early Career Researcher and lecturer in the fields of mental health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) at Flinders University (Northern Territory). Oliver trained in organisation psychology and epidemiology and employs quantitative and participatory qualitative methodology in his work. He is an applied health researcher who uses his experience across multiple related disciplines to design and implement research that delivers benefits to the community. Oliver's research focuses on both individual and system-level modifiable factors associated with improving mental health and SEWB outcomes, with a particular interest in these outcomes among young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Oliver is currently leading a Commonwealth Primary Care Rural Innovative Multidisciplinary Model Grant (PRIMM) developing a Mental Health and SEWB Stepped Care model for young people in East Arnhem. He has previously been the recipient of the Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and was involved in crafting a large NHMRC partnership project assessing a novel method for improving mental health outcomes within a hard-to-reach population. Oliver has also led large evaluations of SEWB programs within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Top End.
