Research Biography

Professor Aylward graduated from Medicine at Oxford University and completed post graduate training in Cardiology in the U.K. and at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide. He completed a PhD in Cardiovascular physiology at Flinders University. He did a clinical and research fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, United States. He became a Staff Specialist in the Division of Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre in 1986.

He has been involved in large scale multinational clinical trials since 1988. He has been the Australian lead investigator and member of a number of international executive steering committees. He has overseen clinical trial organisations at Flinders Medical Centre and SAHMRI which have managed clinical trials in Australia.

Research Interests

Clinical trials in Cardiology particularly acute coronary syndromes, lipid management and heart failure.
