Richard is a lecturer in the College of Medicine and Public Health and Consultant Vascular Sonographer in the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Flinders Medical Centre. He has extensive experience in clinically based research into the use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging. He is responsible for research projects investigating advanced ultrasound imaging techniques, maintenance of clinical and research databases, responsibility for the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery’s Vascular Diagnostic Unit and oversight of the Robert K Foreman research laboratory.
He is the principal investigator for the first RCT to assess whether the use of IVUS can improve patency of endovascular intervention in the femoropopliteal arteries. One year results have been reported for this study with ongoing follow-up continuing. He is principal investigator for a study investigating the use of IVUS, angiography, pressure measurement and duplex ultrasound for the assessment post-angioplasty dissection.
He was awarded the Honours Medal by University of South Australia in 2010 and a Heart Foundation of Australia Health Professional Scholarship in 2015.
