Personal profile

Research Biography

As a biostatistician at Flinders University, I enjoy collaborating with clinical epidemiologists and public health researchers across a wide range of different fields. Previously I have worked as an epidemiologist, researching the cardiovascular effects of fish oil in type 2 diabetes, as well as techniques for the assessment of arterial structure and function. More recently I have helped developed methodology to allow comparison of in-hospital mortality across Australian hospitals using Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratio's (HSMR's) for both the AIHW and the ACSQHC.

I have particluar interest in several specific statistical methodologies for health research including Structural Equation Models (SEM), methods for the clustering of data including exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and latent class analysis, the assessment of diagnostic and prognostic accuracy, reproducibility, and the geospatial analysis of health data. I also enjoy modelling longitudinal and survival data, multi-state models and their joint modelling. I am a regular user of linked health data. I am available for consulting for all health researchers in the School of Medicine.
