Research Biography

I am a Medical Scientist in the Dept. of Clinical Pharmacology at SAHLN and hold academic status as an Associate Lecturer at Flinders University. My scientific education has started in Italy at the University of Salento where I completed a First level degree in Biotechnology (equivalent to BBiotech and Honours in Organic Chemistry) and Second level degree in Pharmaceutical-industrial Biotechnological Sciences (equivalent to MSc). Following a competitive selection, I was offered a PhD scholarship from the School of Medicine at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen, so I moved to Scotland to work on the synthesis of small molecule inhibitiors and the pharmacological modulation of enzymes involved in the nitric oxide pathway under the supervision of Professors Matteo Zanda and Arduino A. Mangoni. As part of my PhD, I spent some time at Flinders University as a visiting students and the network of collaborations formed during this time led me to move definitely to Australia after my Phd conferral in 2015. At Flinders University I worked as a Research Officer (HEO6), first and a Research associate (ResA), later. From February 2020, I took the role of Medical Scientist (MeS2) at SAHLN, but I maintain full academic status at Flinders University, College of Medicine and Public Health, as an Associate Lecturer. My role involves recruiting study participants, arranging study visits and collecting relevant data, developing UPLC-MS based assays, studying the kinetics of enzymes, their substrates and inhibitors, analysis and dissemination of research findings, providing editorial support for publications and conference presentations, developing and enhancing research collaborations, lecturing and providing supervision to students.
I have great dedication and passion for science, strong work ethics and good productivity, and I take pride in my ability to easily build positive professional and personal relationships with patients, clinicians, academics, students and staff.
