Professor S. George Barreto is a gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary and liver transplant surgeon, an award-winning educator, and researcher listed in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list with a special interest in pancreatic cancer, early-onset adult cancers and acute pancreatitis. He is a Consultant Surgeon at Flinders Medical Centre, the Deputy Director of the Flinders Medical Program, and Coordinator of the Research and Scholarship component of the Program in the College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University, South Australia.
He has edited three books on pancreato-biliary and abdominal surgery as well as published over 300 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He is the Associate Editor of the World Journal of Surgery and Indian Journal of Surgery and is on the Editorial board for Pancreatology. He is on the Research committees of the APHPBA and AANZHPBA, the Scientific Advisory Committee for Pankind and a member of national and international committees involved in the development of guidelines for the management of pancreatic cancer, gallbladder cancer, stomach cancer and neuroendocrine tumors. He is also a member of the International Study Group on Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS).
