Research Biography
Associate Professor Selina Tually is a Deputy Director with the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) Flinders. She is a geographer, social researcher and evaluator with experience in housing, homelessness and community development research spanning 20 years. Selina’s expertise is co-designing and co-creating better programs, places and outcomes for disadvantaged and vulnerable people and communities, which for many years now has involved policy and practice relevant work to end homelessness and to address the disadvantages some people and groups face. She is a passionate advocate for equity, inclusion and connectedness, centred on amplifying the voice of lived and living experience in systems and programs of support, and in research.
Selina has been the embedded researcher with the Adelaide Zero Project since its inception (2016); the effort to end rough sleeping homelessness in inner Adelaide. Her roles with this and her many other projects have involved working with stakeholders across government, non-government and philanthropic sectors (homelessness, housing, women, veterans, youth, disability, corrections, health, mental health, ageing, employment), using evidence to drive system change and orientation towards client-centred outcomes. Selina has strong methodological expertise in co-design, qualitative engagement and outcomes frameworks for program monitoring and evaluation. Selina is also part of the Open Door Initiative team within the Flinders Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing, working with others across disciplines to improve the wellbeing of veterans and public safety personnel and their families.
Between April 2019 and January 2022, Selina was a Senior Research Fellow with The Australian Alliance for Social Enterprise at UniSA. Prior to this she was a Research Fellow with the Centre for Housing, Urban and Regional Planning at The University of Adelaide (2010-2019) and during and post-PhD at was a Research Associate/Fellow with the Flinders Institute for Housing, Urban and Regional Research and AHURI Southern Research Centre then based at Flinders University (2003-2010).
