Research Biography

Dr. Sharif Rasel is a Senior Lecturer of international business at Flinders University. Prior to joining Flinders University, Sharif held positions at Monash Business School in Melbourne, Ministry of Public Administration in Bangladesh and Wageningen Economic Research (LEI) in the Netherlands.

Sharif's research interests are at the intersection of international business, strategy and economic geography specialising in location choice strategy, reshoring of businesses, effects of locational factors on performance and global city effect in international business.

Sharif is currently involved in numerous international research projects with high social impact. One of these research projects was awarded with a grant from the Australian government in 2021.

Before joining Flinders University in December 2019, Sharif taught international business and strategy at Monash Business School for six years, and acknowledged with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Education) Commendation for two consecutive years (2018 to 2019) for ‘outstanding’ teaching and contribution to uplifting education excellence at Monash.

Since joining Flinders University in 2019, Sharif introduced a student-centric innovative teaching approach, and received the Student-Led Teaching Award for College of Business, Government and Law in 2022.

Sharif received his PhD from Monash University in 2017. Situated within the contemporary theoretical debates in international business literature, his Ph.D. thesis examined within-country location decision strategies of international firms using a multi-disciplinary approach that is grounded in the fields of international business and economic geography. Sharif obtained his BSc in Economics (First Class with Second Place in order of merit) from Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh and MSc in International Development Studies (with distinction) from Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

Research Interests

Dr. Sharif's research interests are at the intersection of international business, strategy and economic geography specialising in location choice strategy, reshoring of businesses, effects of locational factors on performance and global city effect in international business.
