Sky Marsen has international educational and teaching experience. Her research expertise lies in organizational communication, professional writing and public relations. She is interested in how language is used in professional contexts and the effects of writing style and document design to achieve different purposes. She has researched and taught a variety of topics, including the ways organizations manage and respond to crisis, and perceptions of science and technology in popular culture. Her approach is informed by discourse analysis, narrative theory, semiotics, and qualitative methods of text analysis.
Sky Marsen has extensive experience in advising graduate students and researchers on communication, writing grant applications, and publishing. In addition, she advises scientists on communicating with the public. For example, she has advised researchers on language and communication strategies at NASA Jet Propulsion Lab, Caltech, and the Center for Excellence in Research, University of Southern California. In addition to academic experience, she has advised business clients, including IBM and Xero Accounting.
Sky Marsen is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Business Communication, an IBM Collaborative Computing Scholar, the News Editor and Communication Officer of the Association for Business Communication, and member of the Editorial Team of The Journal of Evolution and Technology.
