2020 Special Learning and Teaching Award: College of Education, Psychology and Social Work

Prize

Description

I'm working through adjustments to my own topics, I became aware of many of the innovative actions Kym was taking to promote and enhance student learning in physiological testing. Kym decided early on that for students to engage well with the concepts being taught that he would not simply be able to 'pick-up' and place existing lessons online as many of the tasks could not be conducted in their current format. As gyms were not accessible, Kym recreated what was needed in his home and constructed a space for high quality videos to be produced. Kym's application of a range of teaching pedagogies and educational aids was innovative because of the way they were applied to the traditionally highly practical topic in a time in which face-to-face contact was not permitted. Kym's commitment to excellent and critical reflective approach to his own teaching will also ensure that these reactions to COVID-19 will continue.
