In 2025 Associate Professor Gaganis, Dr Lara Escane, and Dr Lauren Thurgood were awarded a Vice-President and Executive Dean's Innovation in Teaching Award by the College of Medicine and Public Health.
The award was given for 'Advancing Education in Laboratory Medicine', which focused on integrating automation training through flexible teaching methods to elevate student placement-readiness and workforce outcomes.
'The review panel was particularly impressed by the fact the Medical Biosciences discipline has focused on using a novel industry-aligned collaboration to support student preparedness for final year placement students in Laboratory Medicine and has extended opportunities for staff currently working with industry partners to acquire formal accredited training.'
