The Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) is the second-highest level of Australia's honours system, awarded for "distinguished service of a high degree to Australia or humanity at large". This award recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in a particular field, in this case for "distinguished service to tertiary education, particularly social and anthropological archaeology, and as a national and international academic".
