Australian field testing for Lunar Search and Rescue

Project Details

Description

The field trial will help explore the design and usage of a developmental satellite communications service (LunaSAR) for finding and rescuing stranded astronauts on the Moon. That would include technical aspects of the integration of a prototype user terminal into spacesuits but also the human factors associated with using the LunaSAR service while carrying out realistic activities, including both nominal ones and of course emergency cases. The terrain at the test location should enable tests at higher fidelity. Potential partners are being invited to contribute expertise on use of cooperative robotics to assist with the search and rescue demonstrations.
