Project Details
Description
Phase 1 of Big talks for Little People: Child mental health module was delivered in 2021 and evaluated in 5 pilot schools involving 248 students from years 4 to 6. The program includes all students especially those whom have experienced trauma or challenges within their own mental health and wellbeing including school bullying. In phase 2 in 2022 the intention is to upscale the module with its additions and edits and deliver it to a broader range of schools.
Layman's description
In Phase 2 this digitally delivered classroom module is focussed on improving the mental health and wellbeing of primary school students. It is delivered by teachers across 6 lessons. In Phase 2 additional content has been incorporated to improve the effectiveness of the program eg more teacher information sheets on topics such as resilience, improving accessibility by providing power points of the lessons for teachers.
Key findings
The findings from the Phase 1 Pilot study data analysis would suggest that the six lesson content addressing a range of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills achieved its aim of providing students with new skills and understanding relating to their emotional development and ability to regulate their behaviour and reduce their anxiety. It is noteworthy that for this matched sample the level of self-reported serious school bullying ( ie: once/week or more often) was reduced by 25%.
