Layman's description
The number of recreational vehicles (caravans and campervans) used across regional Australia is increasing exponentially which means there is increased demand for the recreational vehicle waste dumpsite locations. My research is looking at the characteristics of the wastewater from these dumpsite holding tanks to investigate the impact of the concentrations on traditional treatment processes. The initial study of samples from the recreational vehicle dumpsite holding tanks for wastewater quality parameters has shown that the concentrations are approximately ten times higher than the concentrations present in normal domestic sewers. This means the wastewater treatment processes for these concentrated waste need to be addressed appropriately in order to meet the required treatment efficiency and effluent guideline values.
