Project Details

Description

Subgroup analysis of patients with MDS who were enrolled in INFORM trial at Flinders Medical Centre. The aim of the study is to find out whether the duration of blood storage would have an effect on MDS patients in respect to survivability of red cells leading to increased frequency of transfusion in these patients.

Key findings

There was no difference in the effects of fresh blood on pre transfusion Hb. However, there was higher transfusion intensity in the fresh RBC arm within the study population. Based on this small sub group analysis of the INFORM study, the use of fresh blood did not show significant clinical benefits in terms of pre transfusion Hb or transfusion intensity in MDS patients.
