Abstract

Reaction of barium metal with 2-pyridylphenylmethane in liquid ammonia, thf and diglyme at -50°C then ca. 70°C yields the metallated bent 'open metallocene' with the metal centre bound in an η5 manner to the ipso-C, adjacent C-centres and nearest N, C centres, a tridentate diglyme and a thf molecule [Ba-C, N 2.983(6)-3.303(6) Å, Ba-O 2.766(4)-2.855(4) Å determined at -100°C].
