Abstract

Vaccine hesitancy is an increasing problem in middle to high income countries. Australia currently has high levels of childhood immunisation uptake however, pregnancy and COVID-19 vaccine uptake remain sub-optimal. This presentation acknowledges the important role of nurses and midwives in the promotion and provision of immunisation and recognises that many feel under-prepared for encounters with vaccine hesitant parents and pregnant women. The aim of this presentation is to discuss the current literature on vaccine hesitancy, conduct a balanced discussion and provide the top ten tips for effectively communicating with vaccine hesitant parents.
