    Abstract

This report was commissioned by Wugularr Community Government Council to establish the secondary education aspirations of Indigenous people in the Katherine East region. Over several months research was undertaken with the communities of Barunga, Beswick, Manyallaluk, Weemol, Gulin Gulin, Numbulwar, Urapunga, Minyeri, Jillkmingan and Mataranka. It established barriers within the existing education system and the desire of community people to have greater control over the education of their children, and the need for a boarding school in the region. Community people called for 'a good school with good teachers'. The recommendations of this report were not implemented.
