Abstract

The Swamp Wallaby (’Wallabia bicolor’), maintains a broad distribution along the eastern coast of Australia and records have indicated that its range may be expanding. Reported here is the first record of the species from the Barossa Valley region, South Australia. The specimen was deceased when collected and vouchered in the South Australian Museum. This represents a significant north-western range extension. A brief overview of the species natural history is given here along with details surrounding the discovery of this new record. The observed expansion may have been facilitated by the unique ecology and dietary adaptability of this mediumsized, browsing macropod.
