Abstract
The first COVID-19 case in Fiji was a 29-year-old who presented to a hospital on March 18, 2020 with respiratory symptoms. They were immediately isolated until April 22, 2020 following a positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result. For the next 13 months, Fiji reported isolated cases of COVID-19 from returning citizens.1 A year later, on April 19, 2021, the first case of community transmission was identified in the Western division, due to a breach in quarantine.1,2
