Abstract
Motility plays an important role in the digestive process. This lecture/review illustrates a little of the extensive literature of human and animal recording of motility in a few figures which are designed to be used as teaching tools. It is limited to the small intestine and aims to show how the complex patterns of behaviour of the small intestine can be explained on the basis of the properties of the different types of intestinal cells and tissues.
