A distorted tetrahedral environment, a bond length typical for terminal AlC bonds, and unusually small AlN distances characterize the cation 1, which is formed on addition of AlCl3 to the corresponding chloride. The AlN distances show that Lewis acid‐base interactions are required for the stabilization of a dialkylaluminum ion. (Figure Presented.)
