Abstract
Life extension decision for capital intensive long life assets is a complex problem. Post pandemic economic and supply chain challenges across globe due to rising competition along with inflation have been causing pressure on industries for considering deferred capital investments based on analysis of replacement vs life extension options. This study covered evaluation of Strategic Maintenance (SM) requirements for extension of service life analysing Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) of assets and operational, maintenance, life extension and replacement costs. Principles of terotechnology and engineering economy are applied in option analysis considering financial and nonfinancial benefits and costs. This paper presents findings from studies for operational life extension options and applied to haulage trucks in a gold mining industry in Australia
