Abstract
An ancient Egyptian queen shrouded in mystery. An existence marked by the obscure political plots of one of the greatest international intrigues of antiquity - the Daḫamunzu affaire. Her subsequent disappearance from historical and archaeological sources, the controversial attribution of her identity to a mummy discovered by the Paduan explorer Belzoni, the dubious suggestion of a pathology glimpsed in her artistic depictions, the possibilities offered by genetic research, and the fortune of her character in the art of film: all these (and other) questions are answered in this essay by Habicht and Galassi, the former an Egyptologist, the latter an anthropologist and palaeopathologist, adopting a multidisciplinary approach that rigorously analyses a figure that is both complex and fascinating. Afterword by Giorgia Cafici.
