Abstract

Recent developments in personalized or precision healthcare are mainly associated with the advances in genomics, imaging, and other fields that encompass the improvements in risk assessment, diagnostic, and prognostic capabilities that have enabled more effective prevention and therapeutic opportunities. Coupled with these developments is the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and biotechnology which has been observed as digital and sensing technologies incorporated. This chapter introduces the reader to the field of AI, where the main methods and techniques utilize algorithms and some of the important steps required during the application of these techniques in context to healthcare and biotechnology.
