    Abstract

The end of the cold war and the Asian
    economic ‘miracle’ provided many
Asian states with new opportunities in
international politics. A number of them
    (particularly Malaysia, Singapore, China,
Burma, Indonesia and Japan) used this
moment to advance their interests through
the dissemination and promotion of an
Asian values ideology called ‘Asian Values’. The
ideology was promoted at the level of
    culture, political economy and international
    relations.
