Abstract

An examination of an exam involves exploring the 'why', 'what', and 'how' pertaining to that exam. Before exploring these, however, an examination of the philosophical basis of the assessment will be helpful to clarify some of the core theoretical underpinnings of assessment. Hence, the following explanation of the underlying rationale of assessment will serve as an essential introduction to the three chapters of assessment that follow.
